Offering the ultimate small-town feel, Ann Arbor has enough activities all year that give big cities like Detroit a run for their money, too. By no means a one-trick pony, Ann Arbor has something for everybody, including weekly farmers markets, unbelievable gardens, and a cultural mecca to make new friends.

If you’re ready to make some lasting memories, this guide takes you on a tour of Ann Arbor like no other. Who knows, after visiting Ann Arbor for yourself, you just might call it your new home.

Planning Your Trip

Like the rest of Michigan, Ann Arbor enjoys all four seasons, so there is the chance to experience something new even in the same places. However, most tourists tend to visit Ann Arbor between May and September to take advantage of the spring, summer, and early fall months. Michigan can get bitter cold in the wintertime, which might not be your cup of tea. However, Ann Arbor, like most Michigan towns, offers plenty of winter activities.

Starting the Day Right: Breakfast in Ann Arbor

For such a charming and quaint town, Ann Arbor has more than its share of independent and rustic cafes. If you want a little flair and have breakfast in style, Ann Arbor locals enjoy eating at Sava’s. Pick among Avocado or French toast and even some breakfast tacos. Sava’s also offers several different exotic coffees as well.

For those who prefer a more traditional American breakfast, Fleetwood Diner hits the spot. Have a friendly cup of coffee chatting with the locals and other tourists as you enjoy hash browns and fluffy pancakes.

Outdoor Activities

Heed the call of Mother Nature by visiting the Huron River that runs through Ann Arbor. Take a moment to admire the serene water flow as locals enjoy a peaceful canoe ride down the stream. Admire the natural beauty of the Nichols Arboretum, which the locals affectionately call the “Arb.” Prepare to be blown away with amazing and colorful vegetation that is well-manicured. The Arb also has plenty of hiking trails where you can admire the amazing and exotic bird life.

If you are into golf, Ann Arbor offers two great golf spots. Bandemar Park and Mary Beth Doyle Park both feature some amazing scenic views as you shoot to make a birdie. If fishing is your thing, Ann Arbor doesn’t disappoint with the Argo Pond and Gallup Park, both located along the Huron River. Both spots have plenty of bass and pike fish to catch and take photos to show back home.
